Typical meal in Indonesia

The typical Indonesian meal will be centered around steamed or boiled rice. Typically there are various types of meat surrounding the rice. They could be chicken, duck, beef or seafoods (but normally not pork). They often have lots of spices included in the making of any meals such as chillies, coconut, peanuts, garlic, ginger, saffron, basil, cardamon, lemon grass, lime, nutmeg, pepper, shallots, soy sauce, tamarind, turmeric and several kinds of shrimp paste. I wouldn’t advise eating the small green chillies or “Sambal” as they are very hot.
